Report on Renewables in Cheshire

Renewables
in Cheshire
Foreword
This report is being written during a rapidly changing period for
energy production in the UK and within global markets. The
changes taking
place are due to a wide range of circumstances and perceptions,
however it is generally agreed that the main forces for change
are the issues
of global warming and the need to address our use of fossil fuel
sources which are finite and unsustainable. In order to address
these issues
UK strategic policies are in place and are being constantly reviewed,
An Energy Review paper is due shortly. Also regions are looking
at energy sources in a more strategic manner covering many
issues including
security of supply and the mix of energy resources for the future.
Strategic approaches may be uncertain at present, however in the
Northwest partnerships are emerging to which bring in skills
and knowledge required
to address problems and also new opportunities as they arise. From
a Cheshire perspective there are a number of organisations considering
options and looking at the best way forward for the area. One such
group of organisations is the newly created Cheshire Renewables
Energy Initiative which aims to be a focus group linking Northwest
organisations
and developments with local groups and communities. Providing up
to date information and advice which will enable Cheshire
to become involved
strategically and look to more sustainable forms of energy resources
whilst securing employment and security for the area. Under consultation
the UK and NorthWest Energy reviews have also concluded that energy
efficiency needs to be incorporated by all energy users in order
that the UK targets to reduce emissions and energy usage
are met. The promotion
of energy efficiency and the implementation of measures such as
insulation, improved heating and controls etc.. is an important
area for any
strategy or programme to address.
